Summary:
Work involves significant community engagement and public involvement with citizens.
Oversees all parks and recreation programs and projects for the city.
Coordinates programs and activities with citizen groups to ensure that programs and activities are in place to meet the needs of all segments of the community.
Facilitates and promotes ongoing research into new approaches, technologies, trends, and recommends implementation of programs and equipment to help the city.
Principal Duties &
Responsibilities:
Plan, organize, and implement recreation programs by overseeing a variety of sports, craft, educational, and recreation activities.
Create programs, order supplies and collect registrations.
Work independently and be responsible for overseeing programs at designated locations such as parks, pool, community room, and other public facilities.
Includes setting up and taking down at facilities and areas for special events, including weekends, holidays and evenings.
Prioritize job tasks and complete them within specified time frames meeting deadlines.
Prepare written documents, statistical reports, work orders, time sheets, schedules, calendars, program rosters, etc.
Collect activity and registration records and prepare program plans and requirements in advance for budgetary recommendations; prepare reports describing and evaluating programs at completion of activity and identify methods and areas to improve.
Maintain supplies, equipment and materials in support of athletic and recreation programs.
Develop, prepare and organize plans and schedules for all programs and activities.
Enforce policies, procedures and rules for staff, instructors, volunteers and contracted facility renters as well as enforcement of safety and operating procedures, and provide for maintenance needs including compliance with health and safety codes and building codes.
Communicate and work with individuals, community groups, and committees to stimulate interest and develop recreation program support, including fund-raising.
Responsible for the maintenance and supplying of the block party trailer.
Responsible for attending civic club meetings and providing ideas and support for them.
Responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of the city pool.
Perform other such duties as may be assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods of recreation management.
Knowledge of recreation activities for children, adolescents, adults, senior citizens, and special needs patrons.
Skill in the use of common computer programs and office machines, including the Microsoft office suite.
Skill in developing, planning, and overseeing a diverse number of public recreational programs and events.
Skill in the methods and techniques for recreation facility maintenance and operations.
Ability to communicate and establish rapport, understanding and confidence with participant and the general public.
Ability to exercise independent judgment in the application of program rules and procedures.
Ability to understand, follow and complete oral and written directions.
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
Machines, Tools, Equipment, and Work Aides:
Operates standard office equipment to include a personal computer in a network environment, telephone, calculator, etc.
Operators typical pool equipment such as pumps, chlorination systems, and appurtenances.
Education, Certification.
& Experience Required:
High school graduate or GED Minimum of 2 years of government experience Certified Pool/Spa Operator of Aquatic Facilities Operator (AFO) or the equivalent Current CPR Certificate Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Duties are generally performed citywide in both indoor and outdoor settings.
Operates standard office equipment to include a personal computer in a network environment, telephone, calculator, etc.
There may be sedentary work requiring the exertion of 30 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, pushing, and pulling; Vocal communication is required for expressing the exchange of ideas by means of the spoken word; Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; Visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, use of meaning devices, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; Subject to outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, hazards and atmospheric conditions.
Requires driving personal vehicle to meetings and other locations.
The employee will work indoors and outdoors during inclement weather conditions and in extreme hot, humid and cold conditions.
The employee will also work with caustic substances, be exposed to physical hazards, respiratory hazards, noise, and sun exposure.
The employee on occasion may have to move or lift objects or persons weighing up to (100) pounds.
Special Requirements:
Possession of an appropriate State of Texas issued driver's license.
No DWI or drug related convictions.
