Physician Assistant - Outpatient Clinics - Primary Care
These full-time, permanent Physician Assistant positions are located at the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Conroe, Katy, Lake Jackson, Richmond, Texas City and Tomball.
The CBOC is a satellite of the Michael E.
DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, Texas.
The Primary Care PA will be responsible for the triaging of unscheduled patients, their clinical assessment, and developing a plan of care and treatment of patients presenting with acute care issues to the Primary Care Clinic.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
1) Routine Duties:
o Performs initial histories and physical examinations on inpatients and outpatients.
The supervising physician will review and sign all admitting inpatient history and physical exams and all new outpatient history and physical exams.
o Provides ongoing outpatient and inpatient care for assigned patients.
o Performs periodic physical examinations on nursing home and domiciliary residents.
o Screens outpatients to determine need for further care.
o Prescribes medications within defined scope of practice.
o Orders diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, x-rays, electrocardiograms (EKGs).
o Carries out health promotion and disease prevention activities.
o Draws blood specimens for testing and performing other comparable lab procedures.
o Initiates and expediting requests for consultations and scheduling special tests and studies.
o Makes daily rounds to observe and record each patient's medical progress, updating and summarizing medical records.
Changes orders when appropriate, and notifies the responsible physician of significant changes in the patient's conditions.
o Makes interim summaries of the patient's medical record.
o Dictates discharge summaries.
The supervising physician must sign the discharge summary.
o Dictates notes on procedures performed for which the PA is responsible.
o Provides education and counseling of patients and families in preventive care, medical conditions, and use of prescribed treatments and drugs.
o Provides telehealth services with specialty providers.
2) Non-routine/Non-emergency Duties.
The PA is authorized to perform the following duties as granted.
During the performance of the following duties, a staff physician must be available for consultation by telephone and, if summoned, by physically present at the site of the procedure within a reasonable period of time.
Tour of Duty:
Monday thru Friday, 8:
00am to 4:
30pm (alternate tour or extended hours/weekends may be required.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
